With market uncertainty at a local maximum in April, demand for executive talent entered a “wait-and-see” mode. Opened searches dropped 9.5% month-over-month from 485 opened searches in March to 439 opened searches in April, while closed searches dropped 3% (from 313 to 304) and canceled searches jumped 12% (from 101 to 113). Combined, those monthly changes netted just 22 additional active searches in our dataset—down from the 74 additional active searches in February and 71 additional active searches in March. The changes seem to suggest companies aren’t fully altering executive hiring plans, but instead taking a more discerning approach to adding talent given the macro environment.
