Median compensation for newly hired executives fell nearly 3% in Q1, down from an all-time high in Q4 2024.

  • This decline diverges from the mid-quarter check we did on comp, meaning it was hires in the back half of the quarter that felt the decline.
  • Breaking compensation down by level, it was Head Of-SVP hires who bore the brunt of the cuts. The median base and bonus for those levels both dropped, causing a 5% decline in median OTE.
  • Other levels, like C-Suite and Director & Below actually saw compensation rise, so those functional executive leaders appear to be dealing with a market correction of sorts.
