Median compensation for newly placed executives is nearly flat so far in Q3, coming in at $420K for the first two months of the quarter.

Q2’s median comp ended up at $423K, which was the first quarterly decline in compensation (down nearly 3% from Q1’s $435K figure). If Q3’s figure persists, then, it’ll be the second straight quarter of declining compensation—something Thrive’s dataset has never seen.

The adjustment, thus far in the quarter, has been to bonuses, which is dropped 2.4% quarter-over-quarter from $123K to $120K.

While two slight quarterly declines may be a signal of more restraint when it comes to offers, the longer term trend shows that comp remains elevated on a year-over-year basis, with three straight quarters of at least 2% annual growth.

We’ll report more on compensation, including function and asset class breakdowns, in our quarterly report next month.
